Occupy Baluwatar

Occupy Baluwatar movement is helding on Baluwatar kathmandu since 15 days and this Campion / movement will go till victims don’t get justice. This demonstration about violence against womens in Nepal and they were taking 5 case of women’s as symbol, they are kidnapping, rape case and domestic violence’s. Every day the demonstration starts from 9am to 11am at the front of Nepal rastra baink, Baluwatar.  few days ago (9th jan 2013) we had been there for participation observation on demonstration and we found more than 1000 gathering together within 2 hour. They were from different sector and different field such as; Blue diamond society, CWIN, GAESO women, WIPA, women activist, journalist, students and civic.

The demonstration was leading by daughter of Chhori maiya maharjan (who is missing since 11 month) and father of Saraswoti subedi (who was working as household work and her case was murder case). They were raising a voice about justice and their motto was to convey the message to parliament / Prime minster of Nepal through this movement.

I found few of the participants without knowing the reason why they were there? And they were asking what is about? Why they are demonstrating there? And few of student’s (participants) were enjoying their free time just hanging around. And.....yes most of the participants were first time there just for support the demonstration. On the demonstration different activities is being held every day and yesterday was bit different then other day, Lasana group (group of artist) were showing some symbolic art there (they covered the face and came up middle of the road and started to walk backward silently). The massage of that demonstration was ‘we (Nepalese people) are moving in wrong way’.

Everything has two different parts, and I found this demonstration has also positive and negative both parts. The positive part is that the family members of victims get the sympathy from the people and they got chance to raise the voice against government’s light policy. A daughter of Chhori maiya said; ‘my mom was missing since 14th falgun 2068 and we haven’t got justice yet. Criminals (the Indian people, who supposed to kidnapped her, sister of the owner of Samsung mobile company) they are getting political conservation or support at this moment and that criminal women getting out from jail by paying a money on police office and the police officers are acting just like they are unknown about it so we want justice, that’s why we are protesting here since 13 days, we are trying to raise a voice for our mom, after my mom missing that criminals family called us at their home and they requested to take our case back, even they told us that they will pay a money how much we want. But we said we don’t want any money , we just want our mom back then after they said; do whatever you like and go where ever you want but  just keep in your mind that we won’t lose this case, you know the power of money, we can buy anybody for it’. Hearing this story I felt this case is only a symbol, lots of cases are still in coma, our government is just being blind in front of the fact so we should have to awake and knock them for their day dreaming stage. And yes parliament should have to listens the voices of victim so these types of demonstrations are needed in Nepalese context yet. But media coverage about these types of a case is growing high and its impact is going negative day by day; the reason is that criminal minds encouraging (been started to be motivated) to do these types of things because the government doesn’t have any strict rules and they don’t do any things for them as penalty (If Nepal government have death penalty for those criminals, they never repeat the same case again). So journalist should have to be careful and think about it deeply after writing an article or news about any cases.
